After years at the coast I have finally transitioned my holiday decorating to a more beach friendly style. Gone are the traditional red and greens from my tree. Instead, I have replaced them with a glittering gold and white tree trimming made up of shells and coastal inspired decorations. I discovered that a wonderful sea-style tree can be whimsical and vibrant and just as awe inspiring as any other style tree. The transition was simple. I swapped my colored lights for simple white LED's. Then I discovered a wonder shell garland made of simple white shells. For fun, my family and I bought shells with small holes drilled and strung them on a piece of ribbon. We added glitter to some but found that most were just beautiful in their natural state. Starfish and Sand dollars make great ornaments too with just a simple piece of ribbon!
I then began my quest for coastal inspired ornaments to add some color. My favorites are miniture glass fishing floats. They are just as pretty as glass balls but, full of beach style. This year I added whimsical fish, some hilarious flamingos and a few wooden fishing bobber ornaments. The best part is that my tree now has my guests interest renewed as they discover my creative holiday additions.
